Welcome! Welcome! Come Inside!
Hello there! Thank you so much for taking the time to read my words, and to, hopefully, join me on the journey of creating a Substack.
As you will know if you have read my About I live in a very busy household, with many people coming and going throughout the day. This can lead to me desperately searching for a quiet place where I can think and write. Hence searching for a desk of my own….
I feel that I am, also, searching for the ‘who am I now?’ Like many parents of children with extra needs I have been empowered, enlightened, and caught up in the fight to ensure they get the support they require in order to fulfil their potential and live the lives they want to. At times this has felt all encompassing and, potentially, overwhelming. A problem faced by many Carers, be they parents, partners, siblings, or youngsters is understanding ‘Who are we outside of our caring roles?’ Now Nathan and Cerys both have almost full time care teams it is a chance for me to start to find out.
I am sure there are many people who feel this way even if their young people do not have any extra needs – perhaps just the fact that offspring are growing up and moving away, making their own decisions – freeing up that space in our brains to try to find out what our own interests are.
I am, in no way, unique. Of that, I am sure. Nor alone in knowing that the experiences I have gained over the years have shaped me into the person I am at this time. Now that I have a little more opportunity, I want to use that to grow and develop – in the same way I hope that this Substack will.
It may start off as one thing, and then morph into something different… and any unpaid carer will tell you that a crisis is always just around the corner! So please bear with me if I don’t post regularly.
Be assured of one thing – I want to write, I want to make connections. I want to be part of this community.
Thank you for visiting. Hope to see you again soon
