Wednesday 9th October – Tuesday 15th October is Baby Loss Awareness week.
Before I had Nathan, I was pregnant with a baby girl. As someone with a single ventricle cardiac condition we were always uncertain whether I would even be able to get pregnant, let alone carry to term. The Cardiologists were uncertain because so few women with my condition had even attempted to have a child naturally – 30 years later it still isn’t an easy route to motherhood.
At 20 weeks I went into labour…
For a long time, I didn’t mention her existence, but I am always thinking of her and I keep her in my heart.
Nowadays there is so much more openness about miscarriage and baby loss, and for that I am very grateful.
*Deep breath*
I have a daughter
Her name is Bernie
She lived for a minute and died in my arms
Now she ‘dances with the stars’
I’m so deeply sorry for your loss. It’s not one that time can ease. I admire you for drawing something as beautiful as this poem out of it ❤️
